Manila Bay Seafood
One thing is for certain in the Manila area, there are plenty of places to eat. I think we could choose a new restaurant every day and still not try them all in the 3 years we live here. The choices are from many different countries and many styles of cooking. Today for lunch Johnnie went to a small seafood restaurant on Manila Bay. Some of these restaurants are just small owned shops without any real advertising to tell the name of the place. So we can’t really say where he ate, but they sat down and ordered the shrimp special. A half kilo was 150 pesos and the kilo was 170 pesos. About a pound more for 20 pesos? He could not pass the deal up so he ordered the kilo size. This restaurant actually goes to the dock and gets fresh seafood from the boat on Manila Bay. Today when they went to get his kilo of shrimp, they had to come back to tell him they were sorry that the boat was all out of the shrimp he ordered. This is truly a customer service country though. They go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Since they didn’t have the shrimp, they gave him a kilo of prawns for the 170 pesos. I have never seen prawns as large as these. They were huge. A kilo is 2.2 pounds, and 170 pesos is about $3.30. So he had a more than 2 pounds of prawns for less than $4.00. He had them for lunch and he and Chris had them for dinner also. Seafood is definitely abundant and is really very good here. We took a picture of the waiter holding the live crabs at the Blackbeard’s Seafood House at Market Market! We didn’t eat crab but he was showing them to everyone and it was just to good of a picture to pass up.
