Decorative Gifts from the Philippines

Published by jckat at 8:10 am under Uncategorized Edit This

I managed to get the Christmas pictures off the camera today, only one week after taking them.  I am getting better with this whole procrastination thing!  Plus we took the tree down and all decorations are put away.  I read something in one of the travel books that said many believe if you don’t take them down on New Year’s Day you have to leave them up all year to avoid bad luck.  Maybe that has been my problem in the past!  Anyhow, back to the pictures.

For Christmas, Johnnie shopped for me in one of the home stores in the Mall of Asia. He said he walked in and they had all these beautiful displays of gifts for the wife.  He wanted to buy one, but the lady said “Oh no. These are displays, you have to get all the pieces to buy and you put it together yourself.”  Oh Boy, now there is a challenge. There were bath displays and decorations of sorts with different pieces you put together. So he told me that he picked a simple one because he was afraid he would not remember how to put the stuff together when he got it home.  My first gift from the Philippines is a beautiful bath candle. The candle is actually a tealight holder in the shape of a sculpted flower. There are two flowers in a set.  He put this together for me as I opened the pieces.  It sits on a tray which has slots to hold two bowls.  Inside the bowl he poured colored stone like items.  I am not sure what they are.  They are about the size of an acorn, and are greenish and burgandy in color.   He didn’t remember what they were or what they were for but thought that when the candle was lit they were the fragrance.  They have no fragrance though so maybe they are just for looks.  The tealight holder is a wax sculptured in the shape of a lily I think. It sits on the top of the acorn like things in the bowls.  They are very pretty when all assmbled.  I’d say he did pretty good for his first shopping trip in the Philippines.
