Manila Transportation

Published by jckat at 4:03 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Getting around in Manila can be hectic but the locals have it down to a science. Public transportation is abundant as taxis are everywhere, buses run around the clock, the light rail is available and of course there are always the jeepneys and individual taxis. I am not sure what the individual taxis are called. Maybe they are not really just for one person but with someone my size no one  else would fit with me.

taxi These taxis have a side car where the passenget sit. Every grocery store/mall area will have multiples of these lined up dropping passengers off and picking up others.

In addition to the side car taxis, locals make frequent use of jeepneys to get from one place to another.

Jeepney The original jeepneys were made from surplus jeeps left by the Americans after World War II.  Several generations of jeepneys have evolved since then and this year a solar green version has begun testing on the roads.  Jeepneys are the most common means of public transpotation in the Manila area.
